6 Steps to Becoming a Credentialed YPA

Before beginning the credentialing process, please ensure you are eligible for the Youth Peer Advocate Credential. You can find the qualifications outlined here.

Step 1: Complete Level One of the YPA Training

You will need to complete the Level One online component in order to apply for a Provisional Credential.

You can access and register for the Level One online training here.

Step 2: Apply for the YPA Provisional Credential

Once you have completed the Level One YPA training you can apply for the Provisional Credential. After approved, you must complete all other requirements of the Professional Credential within 18 months of employment as a YPA.

Step 3: Complete Level Two YPA Training Online

To begin pursuing the Professional Credential, complete Level Two of the online YPA training. You can request access and for the Level Two online training upon completion of the Level One training. More information is available on our training page.

Step 4: Complete Level Two In-Person YPA Training

Once you have completed the Level Two Online Training, you will need to complete the Level Two in-person training.  You can access and register for the Level Two in-person training here.

Step 5: Complete Consultation Calls

Once you have completed the Level Two in-person training, you will be provided information by your in-person training facilitator to participate in consultation calls. Once you have completed the consultation calls you will receive your certificate of completion.

Step 6: Apply for the YPA Professional Credential

Once you have completed steps 1-5 you can apply for the Professional Credential. You can access the Credential information and application here.

Maintaining your Credential with Continuing Education

In order for a professionally credentialed Youth Peer Advocate to maintain their credential, you will need to renew your credential every two years.

Renewing your credential will include submitting a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education credits, updating your contact information and resigning the Code of Ethics.
